the little book of answers

The Little Book of Answers is a performative participatory project about citizenship praxis launched in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.  The project is conceived to explore and emphasise the ‘non-natural’ status of naturalisation, in other words, to focus on its meaning as a cultural construct.

The departing point is a score or script in the guise of an artist’ book: I compiled The Little Book of Answers using only the correct answers of the UK citizenship test alphabetised and devoid of the questions. I devised a range of modalities to embody this script (pronouncing, dancing, singing) along a project information and feedback point.

You can view a short film of the project launch in collaboration with sociologist Bridget Byrne here: https://vimeo.com/143974949

As the project is conceived as a methodology, I evolved distinct iterations for specific contexts: ArtNight, Oval Cricket ground, ArtLicks winner Brixton Market, Turner Contemporary et al.  Four articles have been written by sociologists Bridget Bryrne, Anne-Marie Fortier, cultural critic Karin Anzivino and art theorist Bianca Frasso. They have been referenced in my book contribution to Feminist Art Activisms and Artivisms, ed. Katy Deepwell, Valiz Press, (2020).
